Canadian History 11
"Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it. " ~George Santayana
Canadian History 11 examines Canadian history by asking “continuing questions” which focus on five main topics: Globalization, Development,
Governance, Sovereignty, and Justice. What are continuing questions? Basically they are questions that are still current (relevant to us today),
which have deep historical roots. The topics below provide a basic outline of the material this course will cover:
·Globalization: What has been Canada’s place in the community of nations, and
what should Canada’s role be in the world as a whole in the future?
·Development: How has Canada’s economy evolved in an attempt to meet
the needs and wants of all Canada’s people?
·Governance: Have governments in Canada, past and present, been reflective of Canadian societies?
·Sovereignty: How have struggles for sovereignty defined Canada and how do they continue to define
Canada?
·Justice: How has Canada struggled for a just and fair society?
This course will consist of reading, answering questions, frequent quizzes, tests,
projects, essays, and assignments. We will be moving at a fairly fast pace so
attendance is a key component to success in this course.
